MARKHAM, ON – October 22, 2026 – Final Voting Day in the 2026 Markham Municipal Election is Monday, October 26.
Early voting is currently underway and will continue without interruption through Final Voting Day. Eligible voters can cast their ballots either online or in person to elect their next Mayor, Regional Councillors, Ward Councillors, and School Board Trustees.
Who can vote
A person can vote in this election if they are:
- At least 18 years old by Final Voting Day (October 26);
- A Canadian citizen; and,
- A Markham resident, landowner or tenant (or the spouse of one).
An eligible voter can only vote once in Markham’s municipal election, no matter how many properties they own or rent in the city.
Ways to vote
Online
Eligible voters can cast their ballot online anywhere, anytime before October 26 at 8 PM using a personal computer or smartphone and the details in their Voter Information Letter.
A Voter Information Letter is required to vote online. If an eligible voter has not received a printed Voter Information Letter in the mail, they can check and update their registration status using Elections Markham’s online Register to Vote service. Voters who register online by October 26 at 7 PM will receive a digital copy of their Voter Information Letter by email.
At a voting place
In-person voting is available at select voting places each day from October 23 to 26 between 10 AM and 8 PM. Voters wanting to vote in person can go to any voting place in Markham and will receive a ballot with the appropriate Ward Councillor and School Board Trustee contest based on their qualifying address and registered school support. The full list of voting places is available on each voter’s Voter Information Letter and on Elections Markham’s website.
Voters will be asked to present acceptable ID confirming their identity and eligibility. A Voter Information Letter is not required to vote in person, but having one makes the voting process faster and easier.
To reduce wait times, voters are encouraged to confirm their registration status online before going to vote, and to consider voting early. Voting places close at 8 PM, but any voters in line by that time will be able to vote.
Election results
Following the close of voting hours at 8 PM on October 26, and once all voters logged in or in line at a voting place have finished casting their ballot, Elections Markham will begin compiling the unofficial results.
Ballots from the online and in-person channels will be combined and audited for accuracy before being published. Voters, candidates and media can follow the live results tracker on Elections Markham’s Election Results page.
All results remain unofficial until certified by Markham’s City Clerk in the days following Final Voting Day.
