Get ready for the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay in Markham!
MARKHAM, ON – October 11, 2018 – "Markham is proud to host one of the first celebration stops of the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay," says Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "And the Aaniin Community Centre & Library is the perfect place for us to come together, show our Canadian pride and cheer on the athletes on their road to Red Deer."
The 2019 Canada Winter Games will be held in Red Deer, Alberta from February 15 until March 3, 2019. This is the largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth in Canada, featuring over 150 events in 19 sports and welcoming up to 3,600 athletes.
Join us on Friday, October 12 for free family-friendly activities including wheelchair basketball with the Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association, life-size chess and checkers, free catering from Curbside Dogs, and cheer on Canada's athletes as they prepare for the 2019 Canada Winter Games! The first 100 visitors will also receive a FREE 2019 Canada Winter Games toque. Don't miss your chance to take a photo with the Canada Games Torch!
The City of Markham opened the new Aaniin Community Centre & Library in July 2018 as part of Markham's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, and welcomed several dignitaries including the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada; her Honour, the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdsewell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario; and the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services during the opening week.
