Statement regarding inquires on occupancy permits
Markham’s Chief Building Official, Mr. Chris Bird, advises that “Municipal Building Inspections staff determined that all minimum mandatory requirements prescribed by the Ontario Building Code for occupancy had been met at the time of occupancy inspections. Accordingly, an Occupancy Permit was issued on May 29, 2017”.
“Building Department staff follow the requirements of the Ontario Building Code and are in fact mandated by the Code to grant an Occupancy Permit once the applicant has met the Code criteria for safe occupancy of the dwelling” says Jim Baird, Commissioner of Development Services, City of Markham. Baird adds that “as the Province continues to review its housing policies and new home warranty procedures, it may also be timely to review the current minimum occupancy permit requirements”.
