Team Canada wins Silver in Team Finals at 2017 Junior Pan Am Badminton Championships
The City of Markham congratulates Team Canada for winning silver Sunday in the team finals at the 2017 Junior Pan Am Badminton Championships. The international competition is being held at the Markham Pan Am Centre now through to July 28.
After three days of exciting team event competition, the finals were decided between Canada and the United States. Team USA won gold by a margin of 3-1 matches, losing only one match to Canadian, Brian Yang in Boys' Singles. Brazil took home the bronze.
The Pan Am Junior Badminton Championships are held annually and feature over 250 athletes from thirteen countries from the Pan Americas. This is the first legacy international badminton competition hosted by the Markham Pan Am Centre since hosting the 2015 Pan American Games. Markham's Pan Am Centre is recognized as one of the world's premier badminton facilities.
Team Canada, led by Head Coach, Mike Butler, is made up of 85 athletes from across the nation, participating in five different age categories from U11 through to U19. Fourty-four Team Canada athletes are from the Greater Toronto Area.
