Digital Markham, the City’s digital strategy, is the foundation for digital innovation, collaboration and partnerships among citizens, businesses and government.
- About the Digital Markham Strategy
Digital Markham was approved by Council in January 2017. The goal of the strategy is to transform Markham into a “frictionless city” by 2025, making Markham a digital destination where services are delivered seamlessly, the community is engaged, staff are enabled and innovation is key.
Digital Markham identifies four main objectives to achieve this vision:Engaging and serving the community:
- Increase integrated digital services on the web and mobile
- Expand community engagement on digital platforms
- Improve digital literacy
- Grow Markham’s leadership in digital democracy
The digital differentiator for business:
- Establish a showcase digital community through strategic partnerships
- Establish new standards for the smart city
- Reduce friction for business
- Attract and retain businesses
The digital workplace:
- Increase organizational digital maturity
- Establish a digital operating model
- Enhance data-driven decision making
- Increase resiliency of digital infrastructure
The City as a Platform:
- Develop a “living lab” in Markham for rapid prototyping new initiatives
- Increase awareness of a new, unique #DigitalMarkham brand
- Leverage ICT cluster to establish Markham as a showcase digital community
- Increase transparency and access to open data
Since the Digital Markham strategy was approved, the City has steadily made progress in many initiatives, and has made significant accomplishments with positive results.
- 2020 Update: Digital Markham Strategy
On June 1, 2020, the City of Markham’s Chief Information Officer presented a comprehensive update to Council during General Committee to provide an update on the progress of the Digital Markham strategy.
The update included the results of a third-party assessment of the advancement of the City’s digital maturity and key achievements since the strategy was first implemented.
Updates and successes from the Digital Markham strategy include:
- Enhanced online services through the City’s website
- Your Voice Markham community engagement platform
- Markham Public Library ’s digital literacy programs and makerspaces
- Online voting for 2018 Markham Municipal Election
- Online building and planning applications through ePLAN
- Smart City Accelerator Research program
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- EPIC – HR online services
