National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration & Flag Raising

The month of June is a time to celebrate the rich histories, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, while also recognizing the importance of truth, respect, and reconciliation. The DEIA Team will be hosting a celebration event on June 17 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Flato Markham Theatre. The event will
feature Juno Award nominee and Billboard-charting band Sultans of String, accompanied by an Indigenous dancer, as well as Indigenous Elders Kate Dickson and Shannon Thunderbird. Together, they will guide us in honoring, celebrating, and learning about Indigenous traditions and culture. To close off this celebration, we will make our way to the temporary flag poles in the amphitheatre for a flag-raising ceremony.
