Second Community Meeting - Updating the Markham Village Heritage Conservation District Plan (MVHCD Plan)
The Markham Village Heritage Conservation District (MVHCD) is the largest and oldest district in the city. Much has changed in the 34 years since the creation of the MVHCD including best practice in heritage conservation and how and where growth is occurring in Markham. The City proposes to update the policies and guidelines that manage change within the District to ensure that the qualities that make the community special continue to be protected and enhanced.
We are gathering feedback from the community to understand which parts of the MVHCD Plan are working, and which parts could benefit from changes to better protect and reinforce the heritage character of Markham Village. After meeting with residents in December 2025, we receive feedback on how the MVHCD Plan could be improved including comments from members of the community, Heritage staff, and the consultant team engaged to help with the project.
Heritage staff are hosting a second Community Meeting on the evening of Wednesday, June 17 to present a list of draft issues to be addressed in the revised MVHCD Plan. The meeting will be held on the second floor of the Markham Village Community Centre (6041 Hwy 7) with a drop-in beginning 6:30 PM and a formal presentation starting at 7 PM. We hope you can join us!
