MARKHAM, ON – September 28, 2021 – Online voting for the first-ever Markham Urban Design Excellence Awards People’s Choice Award will be held from October 4 until October 22. Visit markham.ca/DesignExcellenceAwards to vote for one of 23 buildings and public spaces that you feel exemplifies outstanding urban design!
“The City of Markham has a longstanding tradition of celebrating design excellence and this year’s Markham Design Excellence Awards will pay tribute to those in our community making significant contributions to our public realm and urban form,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This is a great opportunity for residents to vote for the iconic public buildings and public spaces that they feel contribute to the beauty of their communities and to their quality of life.”
Fittingly for this 50th anniversary of Markham’s incorporation celebrating “50 Years of Excellence”, the People’s Choice Award contestants are all past winners as well as all entries for this year’s Markham Urban Design Excellence Awards.
The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be announced at the 2021 Markham Urban Design Excellence Awards virtual ceremony on October 28, together with the winners of the juried Building of Significance Award, Institutional Building Award, Community Design Award, Open Space & Public Realm Award, and Urban Intensification Award.
