Markham's hidden treasure: History and nature fuse together at Carolyn Clements Park
MARKHAM, ON – September 5, 2018 – Join the City of Markham as we dedicate Carolyn Clements Park to uphold her passion for heritage preservation and commitment to Markham's community.
"It is an honour to recognize Carolyn Clements, who worked tirelessly on preserving our history and restoring heritage homes in our community," says Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "Her love for this community and her family is exemplary, and her actions are reflective of Markham's motto of 'Leading while Remembering'."
Carolyn emigrated from England to Markham in 1981 and, having worked in the real estate industry, was a prominent member of her community. Carolyn was passionate about restoring heritage homes in Markham and is most fondly remembered for her work restoring both the award-winning John Reesor House and the William Forester House, where her husband lives to this day. Part of Carolyn's charm was that "she could see the beauty in anything," her husband Brian says.
Secluded in a wooded lot, Carolyn Clements Park is an extension of the William Forester House, and surrounds the family home. The children's play area is a quiet and serene getaway for families to enjoy. Join us on Saturday for family-fun activities and light refreshments.
